Along with Another Country, this is one of the first films I remember watching on Channel 4. English summertime has never looked so beautiful and nostalgic, though Ian McEwan’s screenplay delivers a bitter climax
To my knowledge, this has sadly never been available on VHS or DVD
Stills from a short film by Leo Hofman entitled Falling Monuments. They are taken from an article about the Annecy 73 animation festival from Graphis 168 and so far I have been unable to track this particular gem down. Almost looks like a Max Ernst collage come to life. The adjoining description only fuels my intrigue: “This eight-minute colour film depicts the visitation of a town by a mysterious, destructive force. Architecture in dissolution, peopled by strange forms and machines. A knowledge of the rediscovered Ctulhu stories of the Englishman Lovecraft is essential to a complete understanding of this film.” Gots to get my hands on this one, any help would be greatly appreciated!
